sacredness
i appreciate those folk who espouse getting ‘back’ to nature as the way to find the ‘sacred’. those of this ilk are appropriately ‘earth-friendly’, and while most are careful so as not to put down the rest of us who exist in the natural world, there are those who believe the natural world is the only world that matters. interestly, i believe the world of nature naturally teaches the reality of balance; those who are perhaps fanatics about nature might not really strike me as being in balance. then again, i typically remain a quarter bubble off balance in the carpenter level of life.
i am not sure i can put as much emphasis in the belief that one finds the ‘sacred’ in nature. while i don’t deny i can find an inner calm when i am in nature, it seems to be a personal calm…my own inner quieting…getting centered and listening deeply to my soul. connection with other people, while perhaps the calm is shared with a small group of personal intimates, is largely absent in this ‘getting back to nature’ focus.
i believe the real challenge and the real sacred is only found within the connection between people. nothing against nature, but the fullness of sacredness, the fullest balance between intimacy and vulnerability and soul-speak, can only exist in relationships with other people…rare as relationships of that level may be.
