bugs me

a mature bed bug is capable of living for a year after having sucked the blood of an unsuspecting sleeping human being.  the bed bug does not need to feed that entire time.  the bed bug will consume 50-times its weight in blood, and ration that blood over the course of that entire year.  not that i want to consume 50 times my weight in food, but what can we learn from the bed bug?  what would food production be like if our bodies were developed in such a way as to store nutrition over the course of an entire year.  i personally like some of the folk i encounter at our local grocer.  but i could easily live if i only had to eat once a year.  then again, i like baked potatoes and green beans and brussels sprouts and salmon and an occasional hamburger and brat and fish tacos.  i am not sure i would sacrifice those preferences to eat once a year.  regardless, based solely upon radio show comments about ‘hell’s kitchen’, think about what cooking shows would be like if folks needed only to eat once a year
