i am probably not kind

not that horse racing is, in the long run, a significant factor in the betterment…or destruction, of the modern world, but, like with most professional sports championships, i like to tune in and witness the events, pondering the factors and conditions that create a winner and a loser.  i watched the ncaa finals mostly because i wanted to see if the michigan state spartans could oust the heavily favored tar heels of north carolina.  i was born and lived the first 12 years of my life in michigan.  one of the players on the spartan team graduated from the high school my oldest daughter attended (that player had his own controversy in his high school career).  michigan lost…just not enough depth.  i’ve caugh the finals of hockey (currently a red wings fan, mostly because, aside from the penguins’ goalie the rest of the team seems mean).  i always watch the world series.  i missed the running of the belmont stakes…as well as the kentucky derby…though i caught the preakness.  i admit i did not want the ride/jockey pairing of mind that bird and calvin borel to win.  oh, i had some interst in mind that bird winning…a great horse that always came from behind to make a charge at the end.  but borel, who switched horses for the preakness and then switched back for the belmont stakes…to try to become the first jockey to win the triple crown on at least two different horses…that turned me off and didn’t want him to win…i earnestly didn’t want him to win.  and he didn’t…and i was pleased.  and the world has not much changed regardless of any of this.  which is good.
